About Allie

written by Mimi Moses

Allie Cedergren has a curious mind. She's always searching for a new adventure and ways to make the world a better place. At a young age she was immersed in cultures other than her own, having learned Spanish and French since childhood as her second and third language. She was born and bred in the Northern Chicagoland area, beloved by many family and friends.

Allie is an alum of Lake Forest Academy and Michigan State University. She is recognized as a highly decorated and dedicated graduate. [To be quite honest,] she's always loved school and has the natural knack for teaching. It's fair to say she's assisted several friends through many foreign language classes. Of course, the apple does not fall far from the tree, as her mom is one of LFA's most iconic teachers.

As for her travels, Allie has traveled extensively in the United States and abroad. This would include Cuba, Spain, France, Costa Rica and 34 States. Much of these travels have been hosted in educational experiences while she has conducted several research projects based in her Comparative Cultures degree. Professionally, Allie has also worked in programming for the Global Youth Institute, an organization dedicated to fostering greater understanding of cultural and religious pluralism, collaborative leadership skills, and environmental care practices among students and educators.  Naturally, being selected to become a Peace Corps fellow in the Dominican Republic felt like a natural fit for Allie.

Allie has dreamt of working for the United Nations and eventually would like to become a teacher in World Politics and Cultural Studies. Written from the perspective as her best friend, there are truly few people in the world who want to dedicate their whole lives to creating learning environments and helping others become fully engaged citizens of the world. Allie is one of those people and we are so proud of her. Follow her adventures and learn as she goes!
