This week I started my internship teaching English to some of the students at the most prestigious school in Valencia, el Colegio de Pilar. My Monday was incredibly long because of the internship. I started work early in the morning before my classes, but it was worth it. Since it was only my first day I sat and talked with two of the kids at a time to just practice their speaking in English. They were all between eleven and fourteen and so excited to have an American with them for the next three months. Since these kids have been learning English for some time now they spoke really well. It was difficult for them sometimes because I would speak too quickly, but otherwise they understood. I work again Thursday with other kids I believe will be around seventeen so that will be interesting.
Apart from classes, homework and my internship, I am now training for a half marathon on April 3rd held on the Spanish island of Mallorca. What better way to stay in shape than to start training for another race? The half marathon will be more of motivation to run. The running path through “el rio” is the perfect path because the actual path is softer and cushioning for each step. Since the river is no longer a river after they diverted it around the other side of the city to stop flooding, the whole park is below the streets and away from the cars. So, as you run through “el rio” there is no worry about cars and it is always full of other people running, walking, playing soccer etc. Soon enough the weather will be much warmer as well, even though we are already into the 70’s on occasion. But, in about a month it will be beach weather and it will be pretty impossible to stay away from the Valencian sun that makes the Spaniards so crazy here.
